Moodle (LTI 1.3) Setup Instructions
Below are step-by-step instructions for Moodle administrators to integrate with Forage after the account has been activated by Forage Admins.
Step 1: Generate Registration URL (Forage)
- Log into Forage for Educators as an Admin: https://educator.theforage.com/
- Go to LMS Integrations → Add Integration
- Copy the Registration URL
Step 2: Register the Tool in Moodle (Admin)
This flow matches the screen recording (Moodle “Manage tools” → Add LTI Advantage).
- Log into Moodle as a Site Administrator
- Go to Site administration
- Navigate to Plugins → Activity modules → External tool → Manage tools
- In Add tool, paste the Forage Tool URL (example shown in recording:
https://qa-lti-dev-delta1.theforage.com/xxx) - Click Add LTI Advantage
- In the tool list, find the newly created tool (it show as Pending)
- Click the tool’s Edit (pencil) icon to review/update the LTI 1.3 configuration:
- Confirm LTI version = LTI 1.3
- Verify the Client ID is populated
- Verify:
- Public key type = Keyset URL
- Public keyset (JWKS) URL
- Initiate login URL
- Redirection URI(s)

Set Tool configuration usage to Show in activity chooser and as a preconfigured tool
- Click Save changes
- Click Activate to activate the integration
Step 3: Add Forage to a Course (Instructor)
- Navigate to the desired Moodle course
- Turn Edit mode on
- In the target course section, click Add an activity or resource
- Select External tool
- In the tool selector, choose the preconfigured Forage tool
6. Click Select Content to open the content selection popup
- Select the Forage resource to embed
- Click Save and return to course
- Launch the activity to verify access, then set visibility so learners can access it
Step 4: Consume Forage Content (Student)
A. Open the Forage activity from your Moodle course
- Log in to Moodle and open Dashboard (or My courses).
- Click the course where the Forage activity was added.
- Go to the topic/week section where your instructor added the activity.
- Click the Forage activity link (created as an External tool activity).
B. Moodle launches Forage
- Moodle launches the tool and you may see a brief loading/redirect.
- Forage opens embedded in Moodle.
C. First-time vs returning access
- If this is your first time launching Forage via Moodle, you will be asked to create a Forage account.
- If you have launched before, you should be signed in automatically and taken back to the relevant Forage content.
D. Start and complete the Forage content
- You will land on the Forage experience your instructor selected during setup.
- Click Start (first attempt) or Continue (if you have already begun).
- Work through the simulation/content steps and submit responses as prompted.
- Your progress is saved in Forage as you go.
E. Resume later
- To resume, return to the Moodle course and click the same Forage (External tool) activity again.
- Forage opens and you can continue where you left off (or see completion status if finished).
F. (Optional) Grades/status in Moodle
- If grade return is enabled, Forage may send completion and/or a score back to Moodle.
- You may see the result reflected in Moodle under Grades (timing can vary).
